2002/08/31: There is not much new regarding the development of DVD things
for the Macintosh. A year ago I sold my 9600, so I wont improve
anything which is here further - Also there is no need for updates since it
works.
Instead i now try to improve mpgtx, a mpeg splitter, joiner,
editor. If you like, take a look at the mpgtx for macintosh
Homepage, which has a GUI-wrapper for OSX availible for download to make
usage of this valuable application easier, or visit the mpgtx hompage.
One interesting thing is DVDPlayer_3.2_no_DVD_Cocoa.sit not
made from me, which enables the usage of the MacOSX DVD player without a DVD
drive.
2001/10/12: NEW! Patch the DVD player 3.0 delivered with OSX 10.1 to make it work on G3, download
. Please note, after applying the patch you must "chmod 655" the app
inside the package, otherwise it wont be executable!
2001/09/01: Curently not availible anymore: DVD 2.2 patched, CD/DVD-Driver 1.3.5 (OS9)
2000/10/2: Also Availible: Patched DVD Player 2.2, Apple CD-Driver 1.3.5
2000/10/1: New patch for the Apple DVD Driver 1.3.5 from OS 9.0.4
2000/2/5: It Seems that the driver somtimes modifies itself. I now have a
new version which should work anyway. If not, use a UNUSED Version of a
CD-DVD-Driver 1.3.1. Then the patch will succeed.

Here you will find a Patch for the Apple CD/DVD Driver which will not only
make the driver work with most SCSI-Drives, It also has a new feature which will eliminate the "neccessary Hardware not found or DVD-Rom module not installed" message if the Apple DVD-Player is started.
Also you need a G3 Processor and an ATI128 PCI-Graphics Card. Maybe a Beige G3 will work too.
The Patch is only for educational purposes, and I am not responsible for any damage it may do to your health or your computers health.
I want to show that Apples decision to make DVD play unavailible for older customers and make them move to a newer Hardware is not based
on technical problems. Seems more based on pure hunger for profit. I am a loyal Apple-Customer, but this looks like the wrong way. Apple
could make profit in selling DVD-Kits (CD with player, ATI 128 Card, Pioneer SCSI DVD). No investments in
research. Just selling products which are developed already.

Viewer.
The Apple DVD-Player 2.2 Patched also is availible from different sources.
